Home - the place where you feel the safest and most comfortable. Your home takes care of you, but you have the responsibility to return the favor and take care of your home too, and that doesn’t just include cleaning it. There are countless little (and big) tasks involved in keeping a healthy home.
It’s so easy to rely on fancy tools and name brand chemicals to help you get the job done, but a lot of household chores can be taken care of with just a few common items and a dash of creativity.
Here’s a few ideas to get you started.
Use White Vinegar and Baking Soda for Drain Clogs
This trick is handy for both the kitchen and the bathroom. Next time your sink drains get backed up with hair, food, solidified liquids, and other mystery substances, don’t run to the store for that name brand drain product. You can easily get the job done with some white vinegar and baking soda, both of which you probably have already.
Just pour ¼ cup of vinegar and ¼ cup of baking soda down the drain, let it hang out there for 20-30 minutes, then pour hot water over it until everything is completely dissolved. If need be, repeat the steps
Deodorize Garbage Disposal with Citrus
We all know how it goes - you make something pungent for dinner (think fish, or garlic) and try to get rid of the evidence through the garbage disposal. But you keep doing this, over and over again, and eventually your whole house begins to smell like the contents of a dumpster, all because of that garbage disposal.
Next time you catch a whiff of your garbage disposal, grab a lemon or lime (or grapefruit or orange) and grind it up in there. Not only will this get rid of any nasty smells, but the peels will also clean the blades and the wall.
Make Your Own Air Freshener
Store-bought air fresheners are cheap and convenient, but they’re also made with chemicals that can be damaging to your respiratory system. Instead of filling your home with artificial scents, try making a homemade air freshener!
There are all sorts of tutorials around the Internet for how to make your own spray (like this one, or also this one), but the ingredients are pretty simple: water, vodka or rubbing alcohol (to mix the solution), and whatever essential oils you want. Mix it all together in a spray bottle (may we suggest a DAZZ spray bottle?) and spray away! Your house (and everyone that lives there) will thank you.
Disinfect Your Dish Sponges in the Microwave
If we told you how much bacteria was living in your kitchen sponge, you would probably throw that thing away immediately - turns out even your cleaning tools need a bit of cleaning themselves. But, you don’t need to pull out the bleach to kill all of that bacteria.
Simply wet the sponge, just enough to get it damp, and zap it in the microwave for about a minute and a half. Let the sponge cool, wring it out, then voila! 99.9% of the bacteria will be killed, and you can get back to cleaning your dishes without having to buy a new sponge after every use.
Clean Cloudy Glasses with DAZZ All Purpose Cleaner
There’s nothing like grabbing a glass from the cabinet only to find a thin layer of film circling the inside. This film is caused by hard water build-up, and even the dishwasher has a hard time getting those glasses shiny and clear again.
Next time you notice a cloudy glass, grab your bottle of DAZZ All Purpose Cleaner and give it a spray. The citric acid in the DAZZ’s formula does an amazing job on those mineral deposits (trust us, we would know). Don’t forget to rinse clean and wipe the glass down with a microfiber rag for that crystal finish.
**Breaking news** DAZZ will be unveiling a brand new line of dish products (for both automatic & hand washing) in just a few months, so be on the lookout for that too!
